Love to Ride
Well I chose to film a documentary on bicycle messengers because I was one for 11 years. And I chose to be a bicycle courier because I love to ride bikes. One of the most popular questions from people to me is “what kind of bike do you ride?” My answer is anything with two wheels and air in the tires.
This bike is, or I should say was, my wife’s bike. It was sitting outside our office downtown for a week UNLOCKED. AFter a week I “borrowed” it and road it home. I gave it to my wife for here birthday. (Nothings to good for my girl) After a few years I left it outside our house for a week for some other lucky person to “borrow.” It was borrowed a year a half ago. Just last week I took this picture of it sitting on the side of the road, unlocked. I just took the picture and left the bike.
But this wasn’t my main work bike.
But most messengers have not only a love for a lot of bike, they actually have a lot of bikes. And not just practical bikes either. Here you can see James took two road bikes and welded them together to make a tall bike. There is actually a documentary calle B.I.K.E. where they cover tall bike gangs. All I could gather from the film was they got drunk a lot and jousted. Yes, jousted, on tall bikes.
There are a lot of great Facebook pages with much nicer and newer bikes than most messengers own and ride. You should check these sites out for unique and beautiful bikes.
Or check out a great SF shop MISSION BICYCLE

No matter your taste, find a bike you love and ride it. Or send me a picture of your bike and I’ll post it in my blog.
